" A MORSEL OF GENUINE HISTORY IS A THING SO RARE AS TO BE ALWAYS VALUABLE"
THOMAS JEFFERSON

Preface
Illinois is a state rich in agriculture heritage.
It has been the home of many important inventions, discoveries,
and business ventures all of which have had major implications
in the growth and development of agriculture for the entire
country….even the world! This site has been erected
as a monument to the fruition of past Illinois residents
whose innovation and entrepreneurship provided invaluable
tools and resources for the advancement of agriculture.
Our Mission
To assemble and preserve artifacts of informational and historical value related to individuals, businesses, and innovations in agriculture specifically related to Illinois. To share information about Illinois' significant contributions to the field of agriculture. To serve as a viable resource for continuous research and education of Illinois's vast agricultural heritage. To bring together individuals with a common interest in the education and preservation of agriculture history in Illinois.
IAHPS Profile
It was recognized
that despite the numerous contributions the state of Illinois
has devoted to agriculture over the past two centuries,
no attempt has been made on the part of any institution
to compile pertinent historical records and data on the
matter. It is the goal of the IAHPS to continually research
information and gather artifacts related to this subject,
so they may be appropriately conserved and available to
the public in a single location.
The Illinois Agriculture Historic Preservation Society
is a non-profit organization that was officially established in 2003 following a 10 year period
of artifact collecting and detailed research on the subject
matter by the organizations founders. This web site is the
first attempt to present the information collected in a
medium that will appeal to many aficionados of Illinois
history. From the invention of horse-drawn implements to
the formation of the Chicago Board of Trade, if it is related
to agriculture and found in Illinois, then our organization
will present the information. As the IAHPS advances and
interest increases, we hope to provide the public with a
'bricks and mortar' facility in which members and casual
interests could come to view related artifacts first hand.
This will occur eventually as appropriate grants, donations,
and other funding can be secured.
In the meantime, please browse through our web-site and
enjoy the many facets of historical information we have
assembled. As you do so, please feel free to email us with
any comments, questions, or ideas for the site. Also, our
research has been extensive, but we suspect there are many
more entities that have not yet gotten appropriate recognition.
If you have any information on related companies or topics
that we have missed, please let us know. Detailed references
for the information and images of artifacts would help substantially.
Also, if you have historical artifacts related to any of
the subjects we have detailed on this web-site or unlisted
that you would like to sell or contribute, please contact
us. We are always looking for more additions to the Museum
and would greatly appreciate you considering the IAHPS as
a home for your historically significant items.
