" A MORSEL OF GENUINE HISTORY IS A THING SO RARE AS TO BE ALWAYS VALUABLE"

THOMAS JEFFERSON
1817

Southern

The Southern regions of Illinois were the first to be settled in the years preceding and following the states addition to the Union in 1818.   Despite this fact, much of the industrialization in Illinois did not occur until after the North became more populated and better transportation to the East and west was developed.   This made the North much more appealing to manufacturing organizations, so little was developed in the Southern counties in the way of mass manufacturing for farm machinery.    Despite their lesser advantages, the southern cities still had its share in the business and many successful companies from this region found their place in the market.
