organized in the early 1870's by a Minnesota farmer and
entrepreneur by the name of .
Following the great American Civil War, the country found
itself in a state of disarray and financial depression.
Farmers were not immune, in fact, they were hit hardest.
With most of the able-bodied men being gone to war, many
returned to find they weren't needed or that farm prices
dropped drastically. |
